History of OSM
Dr. Steven Peterson began practicing orthodontics in Madison in 1992, when he purchased the practice of Dr. William Levihn. Dr. Peterson holds specialty training in both pediatric dentistry and orthodontics, but decided at that time to focus entirely on orthodontics. There were two other orthodontists in the partnership, which was named Madison Orthodontic Associates. Dr. Peterson treated patients at 5605 Odana Road in Madison, as well as at 1410 Northport Drive, and at 6729 Lake Road in Windsor, WI. In 2001, Dr. Peterson opened an office in Verona, located at 1010 North Edge Trail.
Dr. William (Chip) Bird joined Dr. Peterson in practice in 2002, upon graduation from his training in Milwaukee at Marquette University. He treated patients at the Northport, Verona, and Windsor locations.
With the dissolution of Madison Orthodontic Associates in 2005, Drs. Peterson and Bird formed Orthodontic Specialists of Madison (OSM) on October 3rd. They selected 202 S. Gammon Road in Madison as the location for their main office, but continued care at the Northport, Verona, and Windsor locations.
The practice grew with the addition of an associate from 2007-2013. In February, 2015, Dr. Kevin Knutson joined Orthodontic Specialists after practicing in northern WI and treats patients at all four locations.
OSM’s mission statement: “ We will achieve spectacular smiles and a great patient experience through an interplay of service, technology, and compassion.”
With our four locations spread around Dane County, our sincere hope is that there is an office near you. We understand that orthodontic care involves multiple visits, and we hope to have created an environment where patients can be seen at a location which is convenient to them.
